More About Astrid taken from AstridKirchherr.com
Astrid Kirchherr was born May 20th, 1938 in Hamburg, Germany. From 1957 until 1960 she studied photography at the Meisterschule fnr Mode, Textil, Graphik und Werbung under Reinhard Wolf and from 1959 until 1963 she worked as his personal assistant.
In 1960, Astrid Kirchherr met the Beatles when they made their first visit to Hamburg. After becoming close friends with this unknown band, she began to do photographic studies of the members she eventually grew to love.
Included were impressive group photographs and individual pictures of The Beatles in their early days when the band included Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe. Stuart eventually left the group to follow his dream of becoming an artist after falling in love with Astrid.
Since 1964 Astrid Kirchherr worked as a freelance photographer, and in the same year she and Max Scheler went to photograph The Beatles at the filming of "A Hard Day's Night" for STERN magazine. They took some of the best "behind the scenes" photo's of The Beatles ever captured. Many of which can be seen in their book "Golden Dreams" and in 1968 she took the photograph for the cover of "Wonderwall Music" by George Harrison.
In the 70`s and 80`s photography became less important for Astrid. The movie BACKBEAT (England 1994), based on Astrid's and Stuart's life and love in Hamburg created a new interest for her historical photos.
Astrid Kirchherr photos have been shown in Hamburg, Bremen, London, New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Indianapolis, Tokyo, Vienna, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
